If I buy Parallels for my Mac, do I still have to buy a copy of Windows as well

    Yes, you will have to buy Windows as well. If you are retiring your PC, you could use its Windows install disk since you've already paid for that license. Parallels simply offers an environment in which to utilize other operating systems. Whether you want Windows XP, Widows 8, Linux, or several of the above, you still have to get those and install them yourself. It's easy with Parallels. I have my MacBook (OSX-Lion) set up with Windows XP, Windows XP-French Language Edition, and Linux. I can have two or even all three of these running at the same time, and in "Coherence" mode, it's just one desktop shared with OSX Lion, and I arrange the menu bars around the four edges.

  • I asked a sales rep the same question and was told that you would still need to buy Windows OS. What Parallels does is to allow user to install Windows and run it with Mac OS.
