I use a Cisco VPN client to access my work server remotely; general browsing =, and more importantly, navigating the server is very slow. I currently have a home network setup with two Airport Expresses (most recent version). Will upgrading to the 5GHz spectrum speed things up? Or does the VPN slow things down no matter what?

I use a vpn throughout the day and almost invariably the bottleneck is always at the vpn entry point to the work server. A faster router at your house will not change that bottleneck. Try connecting using the ethernet cable and if your speeds do not improve then the wireless is not the problem.
