I use a iMac with 1TB. I'm perplexed as to what external hard drive to purchase. Should I stick with the Apple products or another supplier?

A Time Capsule is a wireless router PLUS hard drive. If all you need is an external HD, don't get a TC, get a good quality external HD.

But if you want both, a TC is a good solution.

Apple does not make hard drives; the HDs in Macs and TC's are made by other companies.

  • Well, it depends. Apple products are designed for apple, and tested. While other ones in stores may be cheaper, they are build for PCs, but may not be compatible with macs. The ones from apple are usually HFS+ formatted, meaning they are formatted for macs, but is still compatible with PCs. It honestly depends what you are using them for. I would recommend apple.
