I know this cable will pass thru audio, but...

will it pass thru decoded Dolby Digital and DTS audio? I'd like to be able to use it with my surround sound

  • No. You need to use the toslink. It will only do stereo.

  • I have a 2011 MBP and purchased a moshi adapter. My TV is a 2006 Sharp Equos with HDMI 1.1.

    The video works well.

The moshi adapter (audio portion) ONLY works with a HDMI 1.3 (newer) interface.

The adapter is NOT downward compatible with earlier HDMI ports.

  • You would have to have an optical audio connection from your TV to your surround sound, or even an analog coaxial connection. The classic RCA, red and white audio cable will allow you to use your surround sound, but it would just be using the front speakers, two-channel audio not complete surround sound.
