I have a macbook pro i bought dec 2009, and I connected it to Samsung series 5 550 with the moshi miniport, but no audio output.Do i need this cable?

    Your MacBook's external video out connection does not transfer any audio with the video signal (ie it's just video). To transmit audio as well, you'll need to establish either an analog audio link to your TV, or a digital link using this cable. The latter will only with if your TV has a digital optical in port.

    For analog audio, you would need a cable with a standard 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone TRS connector for the Mac end (this is sometimes called a "stereo mini-jack"), and dual RCA phono plugs (red & white) for the analog audio in ports on your TV. You can find such a cable here at the Apple Store.
