I have a mac pro with 2x2.93 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon...with the ATI Radeon HD 4870.....can I upgrade to the new ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics card?

    If your Mac Pro was built in 2009 or later yes. The reason is this video card is likely to require to power connections, much like it's PC counterpart. As well as you need the properly compatible EFI on the system (64bit instead of just 32.)

  • how can you tell if its 2009 or later ... i have 2.66ghz quad core xeon and thinking about upgrading to the 4870 because i have 2 - 30 in displays and i want to get the wacom cintiq 21ux tablet which will also need to be connected to a video card ... right now i have a 4870 and the GT 120 installed ... can i keep the 4870 and add on the 5870 to make all three of these displays work?

  • The card will work in your machine because it is a 2009 Model. Please refer to the system language used in the Q&A and you will see that Apple supports this upgrade and that the information is posted on the part description.
