i have a 13 inch macbook pro that i purchased in 2009. i spilled wine on it and now the battery does not charge- will this battery work?

Yeah, you wouldn't want the wrong size battery. However, if you spilled wine into the computer, I'd bet that the battery is not the problem. It's probably some of the charging circuitry. If the computer mostly works, just doesn't charge, it could be worth taking into an Apple certified repair shop to see if that component can be replaced. If you can, try the computer with a borrowed battery before buying another.

I had a spill and the repair centre said my logicboard was busted. too expensive to repair so i decided to buy a new mac

Hi this particular battery is for the Macbook Pro unibody 15 inch.
As you mentioned, you require the 13 inch battery, not the 15 inch. Another thing to check would be wether you need the Unibody macbook pro battery or the older version of macbook pro (non-unibody) battery.
