i can't access my files from a time machine backup

I've had 2 different hard drives at different times plugged into my airport extreme via usb. My computers are connected through a password protected wireless network from the airport extreme acting as the central hub. In leopard I'm able to access the hard drives on the network via the hard drive icon shown in the finder window. I can access every file i've created, except the time machine files that I've created on the hard drives while they were connected via the computer directly via usb. The folders that have a black arrow pointing towards the bottom left corner of the folder, display an error code "The alias "folder name" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found". How do I access these Time Machine files wirelessly over my airport network?

  • While the AirPort Extreme allows the sharing of external hard drives, it does not allow the use of Time Machine on those drives.
