if you just want to record one channel, then you should get the apogee one.

if you need two channels, check out the apogee duet.

these are the best preamps you can get for the price, in my opinion, and the products are built exclusively for osx so they work great and are simple to use.

  • If you only want to connect one mic, then I strongly recommend the CEntrance MicPort Pro USB Mic Preamp from the Apple Store. It has a high quality built-in USB recording interface and can supply the -48V phantom power your mic requires.

The Blue Microphones Icicle XLR to USB Converter will also work.

You could also use a recording interface, if you plan to record from more than one mic at a time, or record from an electric guitar or bass. These are more complicated to set up and use, though.

If you buy a recording interface, it needs to have XLR jacks and phantom power!
