How quiet is the device?

Under most conditions, this drive is relatively quiet. Not as quit as the WD drive it replaces, but the quality more than makes up for that (just had another WD device fail). But when I backed up another 2TB drive to it, after a while a cooling fan came on and it was rather annoying. I am fortunate to have a media/internet cabinet adjacent to my iMac workstation so I stuffed the G-Drive in there.
If you aren't having extended read/write sessions, you might not have to deal withthe fan problem. If you do, think about finding someplace to stash the drive.

I teach a high school film/video production class and have this drive at each iMac for capturing video. These drives are going on 5 years use now without any problems. Very quiet and reliable drives.

When its working it is kinda loud at 7200rpm. Kinda like your CD drive at full speed. Takes about 10/15min for the drive to go to sleep and you will not hear anything from it.

I have 2 of G Techs 250 gig hard drives and they are silent.
