Locate frequency is an option that you choose based on your needs. You can choose updates every 2 minutes, 10 minutes or even more time between extending battery life. Most people using a PocketFinder with their family members have it set at 2 minute locates. Our Pet customers are mixed between frequent locates and infrequent locates based on their individual needs.
A geofence/zone notification happens as soon as the PocketFinder locates inside or outside of a zone based on preference. So at 2 minute locate setting, the longest lead time on the alert would be 1 minute and 59 seconds if the device left the zone 1 second after locating. The 10 minute locate setting actually checks GPS location every 5 minutes and if it sees that a zone notification is required it will not wait for the 10 minutes, it will connect for notification right away. In this power setting the longest delay would be the difference of time between the 5 minute GPS connections. Alerts are sent via text, email or push notification based on your preference. We've had customers requesting other locate intervals and are working to add those options as well.
