Both products offer similar functionality, however, when evaluating a security vendor, it is a good idea to check and see what independant third party evaluators have to say. ESET has a long history of protecting computers from malware that is backed by numerous third party awards. Also, ESET Cybersecurity for Mac offers unique cybersecurity training, teaching you how to be safe in all of your online transactions.

Viruses on Mac OS X are rare, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. The common belief that Macs are immune to malware is false. So it's good you're thinking about computer security to protect your Mac from internet threats.
Regarding independent awards each company has won, I imagine ESET might win some independent awards for their antivirus on Windows OS, but it's a far stretch to assume they have the best anti-malware app for Mac OS X. You're basically comparing the best Mac security software (VirusBarrier) with a good Windows OS security company (ESET).
Intego focuses solely on protecting all Apple products from Mac malware and other computer security issues that could harm your Mac OS X. In my opinion, this seems important if you're comparing the level of protection VirusBarrier offers in comparison to what ESET anti-virus offers.
In short, several features help set Intego VirusBarrier apart as the best antivirus for Mac OS X, including its integrated 2-way firewall, proactive behavioral analysis and advanced protection from online threats.
Hope this helps.
