Bus Powered in this case means you don't need a power supply. You just need the USB 3.0 cable and you're ready to use the drive. However, I called Apple Support and questioned if this was true of this particular device. I was told to assume that it needed the provided power supply. I was hoping it was provided for use with USB 2.0 devices. (That may still be the case.)
Also, note the manufactures part number ending in 901. Seagate, from what I could find does not carry that part number. (STCB3000901) They do have part number STCB3000900. (ends in 900 not 901)
And what about the warrantee? From what I can tell from the Seagate site it should be two years not three. It might be worth following up with Seagate first if these issues concern you.- Answered by Randall S from Houston
