For a Mac connected to one of AirPort Extreme's Ethernet ports, is there any degradation in speed or performance?
Currently the Mac is connected directly to cable modem.

No. There should be an *increase* in speed/performance. The wireless operates at up to around 50 Mbs (depending on the version of Airport Extreme you have) while recent versions of Airport Extreme WAN/LAN (wired ethernet ) ports that operate at 1 Gbs. There can be a small loss of performance when the AE is functioning as a router but you can also set it up to function as a switch, in which case you will get whatever speed is available on the WAN ("in") port, up to 1Gbs.
