Does the cable stay in place when the iPad is removed?

I'd like to use the stand as my primary charging base. If I remove the iPad, will the charging cable stay in place or is it likely to fall out of the stand?

    No, the cable is separate - it is just hidden below the iPad, in a cut-out made for it in the stand. It keeps the cord invisible when the iPad is in place, but once unplugged the cable will slide free.
