Does ONE have to be connected with a mac in order to record or play? I would like to take it on the road WITHOUT the computer.

I want to be free to record without having to lug a laptop around!

Yes, it needs to be connected. There is no storage on the device, nor processing power to drive it. It's just an interface.

  • It's not a recording device itself, it's an interface to your laptop to make it easier to record vocals/instruments etc.

I use my iPhone to record when I'm on the road or out and about and have this setup at home when I'm ready to do full demos.

  • Zoom make portable stereo mic/recorders (like the 4 track H4n which includes amp modeling and more) that act as a USB AD. More complicated to use of course but they get good reviews.
