If I understand your question correctly, the answer is no. The Macbook Pro also has an ethernet connector on the side for a wired connection. You will need to have an internet service provider such as cable or dsl with a modem to give you the ethernet connection.

  • You do not need Wi-Fi to connect the MacBook Pro to a network or the internet. You can plug in a standard network cable into the side of the laptop and connect to a network/internet without using wireless.

  • My MBP has an ethernet port on the right hand side. This is a good thing because I need WIRED access at the office to use corporate resources.

At home I use WiFi for access to my personal network. That's a great deal because I can putter on the computer during the commercials or read the news at the breakfast table on my Mac.
