Do we need a wireless adaptor with this product if laptop we will be connecting has 802.11 b/g (but not n), in order to receive the N signal?

    No. 802.11 a/b/g/n are all broadcast at the same time, from the airport extreme, theirfore, your laptop will get the G portion of the signal. The N has greater speed, and can be broadcasted at longer distances than G. Let me give you an example. I have the new Macbook Pro 17inch and the iPhone 3gs. My macbook pro will see the N portion of the signal, while the iPhone will only see the G. No adapters nesessary

  • Yes you do. Your laptop/notebook has to be 802.11n capable in order to use N signals. If you have a b/g, you have to configure the AirPort Extreme to use "mixed signals", i.e. use b/g/n signals, then your b/g laptop can use it.
