This is the Thunderbolt version of LaCie's 2big product. It only has 2 Thunderbolt ports and can only be used with a Mac that has a Thunderbolt port. There are no other connections possible with this version of the 2big.
There are other versions of the 2big available: one that is USB 3.0 only; the other has FireWire 400/800 and USB 3.0 ports. Refer to the LaCie website or the Apple Store for other configurations.
If you wish to connect via USB, you will have to consider the purchase of the other 2big models that have a USB 3.0 interface. Note well: a USB 3.0 drive can be connected to USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 ports on your computer.

"can you plug other harddrives with usb into this"?
No, the Lacie only has 2 thunderbolt interfaces, no USB interfaces.
"western digital hard drive can this be plugged in to lacie"?
You can replace the harddrives in the lacie, however, I believe that whatever you replace should be the same size and speed as the other drive.
"also should led on front of lacie be lit all the time as mine isnt"?
When my lacie is plugged into my iMac and it is mounted, the LED is lit all the time. If it isn't plugged in or not mounted or the iMac is alseep, then the Lacie LED is off.
