Can this speaker be connected to a laptop to be used as a speaker?

I called Philips because it wouldn't work with my MacBook Pro. After much research, they decided that it just depended on the laptop, since they are all so different. You just have to try it and see.
I returned it and bought a JBL OnStage IIIP (the "P" is important) because their literature specifically says it works with laptops. It works great with my MacBook (and iphone 4 and itouch 2nd generation) and it is easier to dock my devices. The sound is pretty much the same between it and the Philips.
The JBL has a remote control, which the Philips does not.
However, the JBL will not sync your devices - Philips will.
For me, playing my laptop was more important.

Oh yes! That was the first use i had of it, to improve the audio at a
skype call. And it sounds just great! And the P2 cable to plug to the computer audio out is included.
