Can the 5th gen Airport Extreme play music without the Airport Express? If I want to play music, do I only need Airport Express?
I am looking to play music wireless throughout my house. Do I need an Airport express or extreme? Would it be useful for me to get the extreme is my main purpose is playing music wirelessly throughout my home? I can see the uses for the extreme but I am not sure. Also, do I need an extreme for every set of speakers in the house? Whats the best way to set it up?

If you want to play music throughout your house than it is recommended that you use the Airport Express rather than the Airport Extreme. On the Airport Express, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack available to be connected to audio devices. The Airport Extreme does not have this headphone jack. In regards to the set up of every Airport device for every speaker, yes you will need each Airport device dedicated for each speaker.
My best recommendation for you is to use the Airport Expresses for each speaker you want music played to. Also a Airport Extreme Base station as a primary wireless router that is connected to your computer that has iTunes and content that you want to stream to your speakers.
Best of luck with your endeavours
