Can it fold back to protect the back of the iPad?

    yes, but remember that the folded over cover is the side facing the glass when folded back, so don't place it on very messy surfaces the kids just put jam or paint on, as that will get transferred to the screen when folded shut.

  • It does fold back and can protect the back when you set it down, but it doesn't lock into place and slides around a bit. Also it covers the camera if you have it open folded behind. There are a few cases that work with the smart cover to protect the back, or you can use a skin. I found that if you fold it in half it snaps together so when you fold it behind you can still use the camera or prop it up a little higher in you lap.

  • Yes, the cover will fold back when you're holding the iPad, and almost act as a gripper. It also is nice because you don't have to take the cover off whenever you hold up your iPad.
