Hello Martin E,
Yes, you can use mp3's saved on the mac instead of itunes. You will have to drag the songs from the finder window, or wherever it is lovated, and onto the djay turntable you want it on.
Songs saved on your mac will not show up directly in djay since it is integrated with iTunes. This is why you will have to drag each track from its location, into djay/onto the specific turntable you want to play it on.

No, you have to use iTunes as the source of the tracks, but only if you use the software the Vestax Spin comes with and if you want to use the DJAY 3 software you should get the pro version from the app store for mac.
