Can I use both a 5870 and a 5770 in a mac pro 2010? I know the 5770 will only have 8 PCIe lanes, but does the Mac Pro have enough power for both?

NOTE: Actually you CAN use both cards, but you will need to find 'Y' power cable to split the 2 power connectors into 4 (using 3 of them. So its not 'officially' supported, but as noted here and elsewhere, there is more than sufficient power to supply both cards (in fact 2x 5870 has been successful)

  • First, You CANNOT use both 5870 and 5770 because the Mac Pro comes with TWO 75W 6-pin connectors (you can run dual 5770s though). The 5870 uses both of the 6-pins to power itself.

Second, the peaking power of the power supply is 950 Watts, so it would have MORE than sufficient power to run both cards or greater cards than a 5870.
