Can I use airport as a wireless access point with my existing router?

I have a D-Link DIR-655 router which has worked great for me for years. Can I use the airport as a switch/wireless access point with my router?

Yes. We have the same D-Link router connected to our Cable Modem at home. I recently purchased the AirPort Extreme Base Station and connected it to the DIR-655 via ethernet cable and it was assigned an IP address without issue.

NOTE: The light on the AirPort Extreme Base Station will flash amber until you run the AirPort Utility. Also, you will not be able to view any windows computers which are connected through the wired or wireless connections of the DIR-655 which could make network sharing a problem.
