Can I stream music from a 3G ipad to my stereo without an ethernet connection to the airport express?

I only have a desktop that access the internet via a USB wireless connection. I would like to get the ipad2 and stream music to my stereo from that wirelessly. Or could I plug the airport express into the desktop (which is connected to the internet via the USB drive) with an ethernet cable and create a wireless network?

I'm sure you have an answer by now, but just in case, yes.

Your Airport Express will allow wireless playing of music from any device that can have a wifi connection--a laptop, a smart phone, an iPod Touch, or an iPad. The AE doesn't care whether it's receiving an internet signal or not--it creates a wireless network. If your stereo is connected by a 1/8 miniplug/RCA stereo cable (the red and white old time stereo plugs) to the Airport Express, and you choose that AE on your streaming device, you'll have the musical result you want.

You can still connect your modem via CAT 5 or 6 to the AE and have wireless internet as well, of course, but it's not necessary if you're just streaming music from other devices to the stereo.
Lots of people use the AE as just a component of their (newly wireless) music system.
