Can I set up this to back up my iMac using Time Machine and then the partition to back up the time machine back up?

Yes and no. I have mine partitioned into 4 parts: 3 x 750 GB partitions for time machine backups, and 1 x 1.75 TB for other data. It works just fine if you have it connected to the machine via firewire for the backups. But, if you are trying to backup other machines over a network, you may run into problems. I have been trying this for HOURS, and have tried everything I can i.e. verifying, repairing, reformatting, permissions, etc, and cannot get the other machines to back up to it. I get the following error:
This disk drive does not support Time Machine backup over the network. Get more information about compatible drives.
So, in short - works as long as it is connected directly to the machine.... not so much if you are backing up over the network.
