Can I connect a Mac Book Pro via the wireless capability and an imac via an ethernet connection?

I have an older imac OS 10.3.9 - the tech specs indicate that you need 10.5.7 or later to set up airport extreme. I just bought a mac book pro (snow leopard) and want to keep both computers and connect both to the internet. Can I hook up the mac book pro via a wireless connection and use an ethernet cable to connect the older imac or would there be a compatibility problem?

Yes. Use your new MacBook Pro to setup the Extreme. Then any Mac can connect without any conflict by using either wireless or Ethernet cable for its connection.
