Are both memory slots suppose to have the same size ram? Is all ram sold in pairs?

    Not necessarily. DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 do not need to be installed in pairs. Sometimes depending on the machine and application, it can be beneficial to have matched pairs as in both same exact manufacture and GB sizes. Especially when mixing PPC cpus into the mix. For example G4 and G5 processors benefit from matched pairs when using large size DDR Ram. ie 1 GB DDR 256bit ram in the Powermac G5 systems. But in general on newer Macs and MacBooks it doesn't matter so much.
