    No, the battery is used to play too. They don't work unless turned on. Everyone I've shown these too has gone Wow! All with a daft look on their faces

  • Yes, however, without any batteries, there will be no sound coming out of them whatsoever. But the battery usage is only for the noise cancelling and not for the music at all. Remember that even a bad battery will last you 36 hours.
