Can you use connect the Performance MX Mouse via bluetooth directly to the Macbook Pro without having to use the USB receiver?

No. It uses a special dongle that supposedly is faster than bluetooth, so you need the dongle. I would rather have a bluetooth mouse, even though this mouse is rather nice and precise.
