No, Pixelmator is a standalone application.
iLife is required only if you're using Photo Browser feature.- Answered by AD from London

The iLife software is only required to use the "save to iPhoto" feature.
You can also take pictures with the iSight directly from Pixelmator but I dont believe that requires iLife.- Answered by MH from West Chicago
