What will this do with HD video?
Purchased a MacBook last Feb. not realizing it did not have a firewire connector. Bought a Canon Vixia HV40 two weeks ago and it needs a firewire connector. Will this device give me good quality video. This camcorder records beautiful HD. Now I'm stuck.

The HD term can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Addressing what this can do, it accepts composite, s-video, component video signals. It can capture and encode up to video that is 720 pixels wide, which is DVD width. It's great for converting Standard Definition video like what is available from a VHS or DVD player if the signal isn't copy protected. If you want to capture and encode from a source that outputs 1080 it cannot capture and encode the full resolution to a file with the full resolution.
