Will installing Microsoft Office for Mac on my iMac make it vulnerable to viruses??

Yes and No.
The Mac Operating System will not be vulnerable.
Your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents will be very vulnerable. A virus that infects Microsoft Office documents on a Mac could prevent printing and could cause trouble with sending emails that involve infected documents. You could easily get infected and spread the virus to any Windows user.- Answered by PS from Raleigh

I don't think anything can truly make a unix system vulnerable to viruses however word docs i've created on my mac have been flagged as infected files by other computers. so i guess the .docx files can get infected (figures...) but it can't infect your computer.

I wouldn't worry about it, Mac OS X now has built in Malware protection, and any Microsoft Office based viruses will be detected and removed before they can propagate on your system, and even if they did, your Mac would likely be unaffected
