No, the AirPort Extreme and Express are not modems ("gateways"). They plug into a modem and then send out the wi-fi signal and also have plug in ethernet ports on the back of them to act as a router. You'll need to either lease or purchase your own modem that's compatible with Comcast. Comcast has a webpage showing which cable modems are compatible with their system and it's actually more cost effective to buy a non-wifi cable modem (Amazon, Ebay, etc..) than paying Comcast's exorbitant monthly lease rate. You'll want to get a cable modem from their approved list that's DOCSIS 3.0, since this is the latest standard.

Once you have the non-wifi cable modem attached to the Comcast cable, then you'll plug in the AirPort, use the AirPort Utility to set up your wireless network, and you'll be up and running in no time with a home wireless network! My current AirPort Extreme is 7 years old and has been running non-stop with never even a hiccup! I just ordered this new AP Extreme to finally upgrade.
