Will the EarPods work with other smartphones and audio devices?
The new EarPods look like incredible headphones and I'm wondering if I can use them with my Android device since I'm not an iPhone user. I understand the remote and volume control are software based and thus not supported, but what about the audio enhancements.

Yes, the audio will work with your Android device. The remote and volume buttons may actually do something with your Android. It's very simple and similar hardware to their control headphones.

Well, it depends on the sounds your Android Phone give to the Apple EarPods through the earphone jack. The best now is to pre-order the iPhone 5 - it comes with Apple EarPods, and aslo many great features (it comes bundled with iOS 6).

Apart from the buttons, the audio should work with any other device, since the 3.5mm audio jack is not proprietary to Apple.

They would work with any media player, laptop, tablet and even android phone.. Anything that can connect with it, will work. But as you said, to use the volume control, it just depends on if the music device supports the EarPod software.
As for audio enhancement, i'd say they are similar to Beats Audio earphones, as it doesn't matter what device they connect to they will have the same audio enhancement.- Answered by Aidan S from Kalgoorlie

I doubt Apple will actually say anything along the lines of, "Yes this compatible with such and such non-Apple device". I have used Apple earbuds with my old Android phone and some parts worked, but others didn't. I believe the play/pause/stop button worked but the volume +/- buttons didn't do anything.

The audio enhancements are hardware based and thus will, in fact, sound better than the previous Apple earbuds would have in your non-apple device. They will be compatible with any standard earphone port for audio. The remote feature is Apple device specific.

Yes, you be able to use these as regular headphones with other devices, however the mic and controls probably won't work on anything non-Apple.

They're going to work with anything that uses a 3.5mm headphone jack, same as the current apple earbuds and any other headphones. Audio quality will be just as good (or at least as good as the phone's audio chip can output).
I'm not 100% sure on the control buttons but there's a chance they might work with android phones too.- Answered by Ruslan A from Boronia Heights

It's just a standard 3.5mm head phone, so yes.

These headphones aren't doing anything special with the software, aside from the buttons, so you should be able to get all the new audio features the headphones have with any audio device.
