Can this be used to connect MIDI devices for music apps?
I have the old camera connection kit for connecting MIDI devices to control Garageband etc. will this work the same way?

Yes! An iPad will power small mini keyboards but larger ones will need their own power supply.

I currently use it to connect my rocksmith cable and guitar to garage band as well as a rockband microphone. I assume other midi's will work as well for other apps.
