Yes the previous USB power adapters work. I've been charging my iPhone 5 with my previous Apple brand adapters.

Yes, one side of the Lightning Cable is USB. So it can be plugged into ANY USB port and receive power.
To specifically answer your question, I have tried it with 4 different Apple USB Power Adapters, they all work.- Answered by Scott G from Ramona
