Will the sharp edges of the case be a safety issue if my children are using it or is it simply a comfort issue?

Answer
No they are not sharp like that. More like an old trapper keeper (if you remember those) or a plastic 3 ring binder but not as sharp. Not sharp enough to do any harm.

Thank you for your answer. I have just received the case I ordered and am very pleased with it. I think some of the reviews I read about the edges being sharp were a little exaggerated. In fact, I think those edges would actually protect the iPad from small bumps or drops. I think this case is great and would certainly recommend it.
