is there a cover for the ipad 2 that will allow you to view it in a vertical or horizontal position?

Yes there is. It's a Targus rotating cover. I bought mine from PC World. It fits very well. The only drawback I have found is that it uses a strip of elastic as the closure.

With the SC you can fold it into a horizontal stand but it does not fold into a vertical stand. The SC folds into two positions 1) typing 2) horizontal. It is def a good buy.
