I have an existing case covering the iPad 2... Will the Smart Cover still fit and work with my iPad 2?

it depends on the casing you bought.
some cases have slots by the side which is compatible with the smart cover.
Or you can also get those protective film for the back of the ipad, while smartcover protects the front.
unlike the cases/jackets, the protective film is lightweight, clear/transparent and does not cause overheating.
there are a few brands in the market. Bodyguardz and Klearzkin.

In most scenarios no because in order for the smart cover to fit you need a special kind of case ,if you want to find one of these cases just go to target and they should have a couple different selections of smart cover compatible cases
