Is there any way to plug the time capsule directly into the modem provided by cable company and not use a Linksys like router?

    CR,

Yes, you can plug your Time Capsule into the Ethernet (RJ-45) cable that comes from your cable modem. Your Time Capsule then becomes your first device. As the Time Capsule has RJ-45 ports for other devices and wireless, you can then remove the Linksys, or your personal switch.

Some cable providers "acquire" the MAC address of the first device in your home/office. They then only allow connections through that connection. If this is the case for you, a simple call to your Internet provider (cable company) will help remedy. You will need the MAC address from your Time Capsule to give to them. Tell them to make that the primary connecting device on your connection.

    I hope this is helpful.

  • Yes, use Ethernet cable to connect the modem and Time Capsule, which does include a full-featured router.
