do you need an ethernet plug-in just to use it as an external hard drive and wireless printer?

  • No. You can do both over wireless. However, as with any networking if you have the option to plug into it you will get a faster connection and a more reliable one. You might have to plug into it for the initial configuration; but after that the wireless connection will suffice.
