Does the laptop lid need to be open for Time Machine (or Time Capsule) to work
Will Time Machine still backup if I leave the laptop lid closed and either plugged into a external hard drive or hooked to time capsule?

Your computer must have this:
-Turned on
-Connected to Timecapsule via Wifi or Ethernet (doesnt need to be directly)
-Lid Open
-And connected to the external hard drive ONLY if you are backing up to THAT hard disk and not to timecapsule- Answered by Javier Enrique D from Dallas
