Answer
Yes, the older Expresses can work with (wirelessly connect to) this new 802.11n Extreme (the new "n" will not wirelessly connect to the old "g" network). First install the completely new software from the included CD to your computer. Only then setup the new AirPort Extreme in place of the old dome.
If you have AirPort Utility continue through the setup automatically, later reopen AirPort Utility and select "Manual Setup" to check that all settings (including advanced features) have been setup for optimized operation. To do that, you might best refer to the AirPort Utility "help" menu as you proceed, or at least click on the question marks scattered around the AirPort Utility panes so that you're aware of all your possibilities.
(For those who previously "daisy chained" Expresses to extend their network, the new Extreme will connect the Expresses in a wheel with spokes pattern, but will not connect them in a daisy chain.)- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel
