Can i connect a separate ethernet cable to my computer using this device and provide internet to my desktop and wireless to my laptop at the same time
I also have a desktop computer that needs to be hooked up to the modem, so can i use the the ethernet cable coming from the modem into the airport and then have a second ethernet cable going from the airport to the desktop computer and provide them both internet at the same time?

Yes, this is a very common config. You can have up to 3 ethernet-attached devices in addition to your Internet router/modem.
