Can you turn the Thunderbolt Display's volume OFF?

I want to connect the Bose Companion 5 system via USB, but my question is how do I turn off the Thunderbolt Display sound while keeping the sound coming from my Bose Speakers?

Thanks in advance, hope someone can answer this, i'd really appreciate it!

The best way to do this is to plug all your devices in. Once plugged in, then goto the apple icon in the top right corner open system preferences, click on the sound icon, then you will see a drop down listing the availiable sound devices. select the device that you wish to output sound. Usually if the device you select is present after removing the device, when it it reestablishes a connection (plug it back in) it will change to that device again.

  • Set your preference in the System Preferences. Go to Apple menu (top left), System Preferences, Sound and under the Output tab select your Bose speakers.

  • I don't know if you can do this by any other method, but plugging a headphone jack into your Mac headphone socket will do it.

  • As it tuns out, The Thunderbolt Display does not have a power button. It sleeps and wakes with your computer.

  • Connect them directly to your macbook using USB.

Please assume all functionality of the monitor is not available when the display is turned off.
