This is the correct cable. The yellow is used for video and the white and red are for stereo audio. If you do not have the red input, you will only hear one channel of sound.

No need to get a splicer. Your TV will be in mono no matter what, just be sure to go to your iPad settings > general > accessibility and then toggle 'Mono Audio' to 'On'.

This cable will work. The yellow is the video. When a receiving device (the TV) has only the white audio connection, the transmitting device (the iPad or iPhone) is supposed to automatically combine both of the stereo channels into a single mono channel. You still should get all of the sound, just not in stereo.

WR from Chandler is correct. To ensure that you get all of the sound, though it won't be in stereo, you can purchase an inexpensive splicer that will splice both AV sound cables into one. Back when I was connecting to a VCR years ago with only one AV sound input, I used it for various AV connections with excellent results.
