I have a 15" Macbook with a 60w mag safe adapter, it has stopped working, can I use an 85w adapter instead of the 60w? Is it better?

If the wattage rating is higher than the product requirement it will cause no safety or damage issues.

But, the 15" MacBook pro is supposed to come with an 85w. You aren't supposed to use a 60w on a MacBook Pro.

The 85-Watt adapter is what you should be using for a 15" Mac Book Pro. The 60-watt adapter does not contain enough wattage to operate your computer under higher load.
It is better, because the 85-Watt adapter is the correct one for your model.- Answered by David R from Indio
