USB 2.0 cannot do gigabit. It's maximum speed is 0.48 gigabit. Practical speed limitations are lower. That's why *any* USB ethernet adapter will be limited to supporting only up to 100 megabit (0.1 gigabit) ethernet. If you need/want gigabit, you will need a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter.
